Downtown Montessori Academy at Ida B. Wells Academy is the 1st EVER Dallas ISD Montessori School in Downtown Dallas. Although we do not have our forever home yet, we currently share a space Downtown with the University of North Texas System.

Our school is named after Ida B. Wells-Barnett, an African American journalist who led an antilynching crusade in the United States in the 1890s.

Downtown Montessori Academy at Ida B. Wells opened its doors in 2020, serving pre-k through second-grade students. Every year, DMA adds a new grade level until it peaks at 8th grade.

The Montessori Method is an approach to learning that stimulates the child's interests and facilitates his/her understanding and learning capacities. It is developmental, whereby children are challenged but not frustrated by the presentation of appropriate learning experiences.

The Montessori philosophy of education is based upon respect for the child and a desire to guide each child so that he/she may become a responsible member of society.
